But wait, I drink coffee in the morning. How will this affect me?
Coffee drinkers will love the following information that I'm sharing too, because what's in your cup could be doing you a whole lot more good than you may realize!
What is a Longevity Tea?
Basically, a longevity tea is a hot brew that provides the body with bioavailable compounds that do some of the following:
- Aid in the regeneration of body tissue
- Increase energy production in the cells
- Limit or reverse damage done by toxins, inflammation or oxidation
- Heal damaged tissue, including the skin
- Undo accelerated aging through past lifestyle choice mistakes
There are a number of teas that provide one, some or all of the above when taken in the morning on an empty stomach. Let's look at some of the better known ones and a few lesser known alternatives.
Green Tea
By now, many people will have heard about the many health benefits of drinking green tea, but did you know that it also promotes longevity?
Green tea contains antioxidants, specifically the catechin EGCG which help to prevent damage by free radicals, as well as anti-inflammatory compounds to limit inflammation and the damage it can do.
Green tea is also rich in anti-aging flavanoids and polyphenols that are responsible for helping the body to heal and regenerate damaged tissue.
Black Tea
Let's not forget the power in the leaves of black tea as a life extending hack that tends to be overlooked by many tea drinkers.
Just like the green version, black tea contains many of the same compounds with additional antioxidant compounds that are enhanced because the leaves are fully oxidized during the drying process.
While green tea is generally consumed without anything else added aside from the occasional squeeze of fresh lemon juice, black tea is often taken with milk or a creamer. This, while nullifying the bitterness of the tannins present in the tea and making the brew more palatable, is actually a mistake in terms of its health benefits.
The proteins present in milk have an irritating habit of binding with the health-giving polyphenols and flavanoids in the tea, making them bio-unavailable to the body. In other words, adding milk to tea causes the good stuff to be flushed straight through, losing the benefits along the way.
However, all is not lost as some of the benefits remain present in milky tea. It may taste better, but if you can get used to the taste of black tea without anything added, you'll benefit from a cup full of anti-aging polyphenols and flavanoids that will make it worth your while.

Herbal Teas
There are a number of herbal teas containing one or a combination of herbs that have certain anti-aging properties as well as health benefits.
The simple and natural beauty of herbal teas is they can be made by infusing the leaves of the plant with hot water and there are no nasty additives or sugars anywhere to be seen.
Oregano Tea
Oregano, sage and rosemary (they can be combined) create a beneficial tea with a number of helpful properties. All three are anti-inflammatory, as well as being diuretic, helping to lower blood pressure.
Oregano contains flavonoids and phenolic acid that can help manage inflammatory conditions and oxidative stress. It also has the ability to chelate some toxic heavy metals such as aluminum, lead and cadmium, binding to them and allowing the body to expel them.
Oregano tea is also antiseptic and helps to fight cold and flu virus attacks, while heloing to soothe a sore throat. Inhaling the hot steam from the tea can help to open airways to make breathing easier and aid with the clearance of exces mucus.
Rosemary Tea
Rosemary tea has antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties while it is also known to have mental enhancing properties.
Studies suggest rosemary tea may help to reduce high blood sugar levels and help with weight loss. It has been shown to have a positive effect on mood while reducing anxiety and stress.
Rosemary tea aids digestion. It helps to relieve bloating, flatulence and stomach cramps. It may be used to promote hair growth, relieve headaches and even reduce fatigue.
Sage Tea
Sage tea is full of antioxidants and has been shown to lower blood sugar and cholesterol levels. It also supports oral health by killing bad bacteria in the mouth, helps with digestive issues and soothes sore throats.
It aids brain function by positively affecting neurotransmitters involved in memory and learning. Sage contains phytoestrogens, which can help regulate hormone levels, easing the symptoms of menopause, such as hot flashes and excessive sweating.
Summary
This is really only scratching the surface when it comes to the amazing benefits of all kinds of different herbal teas and infusions.
It would take much more than a single article to cover all the many different herbs that can be used in this way. However, just by taking advantage of the above information can go some way to helping a person to reduce some of the conditions that accelerate aging and cause health to deteriorate as we age chronologically.
